My Personal Learning Goals for the SLM program:
- How to foster a love of reading and literacy in schools
- How to design and implement instruction effectively
- How to take on the roles of a SLMS: Teacher, Instructional Partner, Information Specialist, and Program Administrator
- How to collaborate with teachers to support the school's goals through technology integration, media literacy, and literature
- How to develop and manage a collection that supports the goals of the school learning community
How I have met my goals:
I have met my goals through the experiences and courses I have completed in the SLM program. My internship experience has helped me grow as I learned about the real-life challenges a SLMS faces and the problem-solving skills required to take on the roles required to manage a successful media program. Overall, I feel that having the experience through coursework and real media center experiences has helped me achieve my goals.
How the SLM Program has prepared me for the future:
The program has helped me become a more thoughtful and proactive learner. It has taught me the value of reflection, which I feel is essential in improving the media program and instruction for my students, colleagues, and the broader media community.
Future Professional Plans:
It is my goal to gain employment as a Media Specialist in a supportive school community in which I can instill a love of reading, a thirst for knowledge, and a passion for learning in the students, colleagues, and community members I serve. I hope to continue my education, especially by keeping up on new technologies and resources available to improve the media program. I would also like to add an endorsement in Gifted Education.
How I met Departmental Diversity Requirements:
I have worked with a diverse population of students (both socioeconomically disadvantaged and culturally diverse) in many Title I schools throughout my career. I have also completed the Exceptional Child class offered through local my local RESA and received training in IDEA through my district. I have collaborated with special-education teachers in many capacities to help special-needs students within the regular classroom. I am confident that my experiences have prepared me to meet the needs of a diverse learning community.
